The last Coalición Canaria (CC) councilor still standing in the Haría Town Hall, Víctor Robayna, has stated that the "stampede" of his former colleagues towards the group of non-attached members "has already been overcome" and that this action represents "a trivial excuse to manage a bad ego."
The committee secretary and candidate for the upcoming May elections also indicated in an interview with Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero that the action carried out by Chaxiraxi Niz, Armando Bonilla, and Alejandro Hernández, among others, has not been "ethical," as the committee has not been given the opportunity to "dialogue."
However, he states that this issue has already been left "behind," and that now both he and his party have the desire and determination to "continue fighting."
The former councilors have not understood "the rules of the game"
Regarding Niz's statements that the guidelines of the CC island leadership were "against Haría," Robayna states that he seems to be "the only one who has understood the rules of the game," since, in each municipality, they represent "a shirt and a shield," with which if you disagree, "you can leave, but in the correct way."
However, he criticizes that now "it is easy to point fingers," but that Niz no longer remembers when she arrived "almost unknown" to the world of politics and the local committee placed her as mayor.
Therefore, he defends that this departure is "a trivial excuse," and questions what would have happened if, instead of him, one of his former colleagues had been "the candidate for mayor."
Acuña may be in the party, but he will not be first
For his part, regarding the rumor that has been circulating these days that the island leadership could be considering placing Marci Acuña as the party's candidate with the aim of having the councilors who have moved to the group of non-attached members return, Robayna has clarified that although there has been "an approach" with him, he will "never" take away his candidacy.
"We would like him to be there, because he is a reference in the party, but as second or third. I will be a candidate as long as my local committee continues to want it that way, the island leadership will not make changes," says the mayor.
Therefore, he describes this news as "poorly told and intentional," and reiterates that the regional leadership has "always respected" the decisions of the local leadership, and "it will continue to be so."
"No one is essential in the party"
Looking to the future, although the leader does not hide that the departure of the CC councilors has been "a torpedo" for the government, he states that "no one is essential in the party."
In his opinion, this departure "can also be seen as a cleansing," since some have left but others have arrived: "The CC project in Haría is resurging, through hard work. It will cost us, but we will continue to stand," he advances.
