The first time the Riojan Diego Ruíz moved to Lanzarote he was 20 years old. Back then, he worked in hospitality at night, while studying during the day at CEIP Zonzamas for the Intermediate Vocational Training in Systems Administration.

He returned to his hometown, Logroño, to complete his technological development studies with a Higher Vocational Training degree, which at the time did not exist in Lanzarote. In the capital of La Rioja, he gained experience working for a chemical consulting company and for the International University of La Rioja (UNIR).

Shortly thereafter, he joined one of the largest national consulting firms. “I started working for clients, mainly from the Ibex. I learned Big Data (analysis of large amounts of data) and how Big Tech (large technology companies) work. I started as a grunt and ended up developing projects with my own team”.

With all that experience, he decided to return to Lanzarote to launch his own company just six months ago Atomtech, whose headquarters are currently in the Chamber of Commerce's coworking space.

The Tool for Local SMEs: VulcanAI

Ruiz defines the company as "a technology consultancy with an island vocation, specializing in Big Data, personalized artificial intelligence, and process automation for small businesses, freelancers, and local institutions".

Atomtech's main objective is to advise Lanzarote companies so that "they can better understand their customers and increase their sales." The aforementioned technologies "no longer have those huge costs they had a few years ago and greatly empower companies," shares Ruiz.

One of Atomtech's most interesting products is VulcanAI, designed specifically for SMEs in Lanzarote and the Canary Islands. Thus, restaurants or small hotels, for example, can access all this data analysis part which they might not be able to access with an individual project”.

The tool can be tested for free. "You get a simple report about your company that gives you a general overview of what your clients think of you, and from there you can request much more detailed information to take specific actions that will help your business," explains the founder of Atomtech.

Vulkan can analyze and condense the information from hundreds of opinions “that is not possible to analyze by hand. The main thing it will discover is what your clients think about you, what the good things are and what the bad things are, and what things make those clients want to return or not.”

In the case of a restaurant, for example, Ruiz explains, "they can understand how customers value the staff's service, the quality of the food, the atmosphere, the views it has...".

Regarding the **competition** on the island, Ruiz believes that "there are people who do similar things, but no one is as specialized in applications like Vulkan for small clients. It's usual for consulting firms to work exclusively for large companies."

Specialized consulting, document management, and job exchange in Zonzamas

However, Atomtech also offers its services to large businessmen from Lanzarote with tailor-made solutions. “There are very large companies here, even if it doesn't seem like it. For them, we do very personalized consulting for specific issues.”

Furthermore, Atomtech is preparing a new service to launch in early 2026. "We are going to release an application for document management: procedures, regulations, all these types of documents so that team members can ask the application and in a matter of a minute have the procedure" for example that they need.

When asked if he wishes to expand in the future, Ruiz comments: "It's true that we can work for any company in the world. A couple of weeks ago we received an email from Mexico, but we are not in that market. Initially, we are very focused on Lanzarote and the Canary Islands”.

Instead, he does plan to expand the team, which currently has two workers. "At Zonzamas, there is now a specialization in Big Data and artificial intelligence. We have spoken with them to see if we can create a job pool. If all goes well, the goal is that by the end of 2026 we will be between six and ten people on the team and in three years, between 30 and 40 people."
