Migdalia Machín says that creating more parties in Haría will only "divide everything" and "complicate agreements"

The island secretary of CC in Lanzarote has expressed her disagreement with Chaxiraxi Niz's idea of creating a new formation, although she recognizes that "in politics everyone decides their own path"

The island secretary of the Canarian Coalition in Lanzarote, Migdalia Machín, has stated that she would have liked "things to be different" with respect to the passage of former councilors Chaxiraxi Niz, Alejandro Fernández and Armando Bonilla to the group of non-attached members, although she assumes that "in politics everyone decides their own path" and "they must be respected."

Machín has also defended in an interview on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero the legitimacy of the election of candidates and the "equality" that exists in the formation, in relation to the statements made by Niz and the rumors about the possible "hand-picked" selection of Víctor Robayna for mayor. "There is equal opportunity for everyone, the island ensures that the process is regulated," she said.

Robayna, elected by "closed and in the ballot box" vote

Although the controversy over whether Robayna may not have presented his candidacy but was directly elected, in the secretary's opinion, "is a debate that has been overcome", she explained that in CC there is "an internal process where members have the ability to choose".

"We knew that in Haría there were two people who wanted to run for mayor: Niz and Robayna. Finally, she decided not to run, so only the other candidacy remained. Given this scenario, nothing else could be done, since only one person had presented themselves," Machín defends.

In that sense, she has also recognized that "although we all have affinities within the body", these do not influence, since the vote is "closed and in the ballot box", a fact that, as she explains, "must be taken care of".

"The island is not against Haría"

Regarding the accusations that the nationalist formation has made decisions that have little to do with the people of Haría, the secretary has stated that "this has always been played with, but the island is not against Haría, but quite the opposite".

Machín explains that, although it cannot be denied that it has been "a complicated stage in the north, especially because of the things that have come from behind" (in relation to the debate on the Cueva de los Verdes or the motion of censure), in the island "all the committees are represented, including Haría, so the decisions are shared and made together, with a view to the interest of all".

This situation, she says, also explains what happened in Yaiza, where she defends that "there is no break in the party": "The pact in this municipality has also been complex, because it is not easy to govern and no union is ever 100%, but there are still two people from CC represented and with the option to govern".

"No one is going to get a majority in Haría"

With an eye on the next elections in May 2023, Machín ventures that what the intention of Niz to give rise to a new political formation is going to generate is "divide everything". "When there are too many parties, the only thing that is achieved is to divide everything a lot, because the pacts become even more complicated. No one is going to get a majority in Haría," she predicts.

Regarding CC, the secretary recalls that in the last elections this group was the most voted in the municipality, so they have the hope that this will be maintained and be able to fulfill their objective of "transforming the island": "Canarian Coalition is going to recompose itself", she concluded.

Niz indicates that her departure from CC has been motivated by "lack of confidence" and focuses on her new party
