The PSOE spokesperson in Haría, Alfredo Villalba, blames the current Government group of the municipality for the Ministry of the Interior having started the installation of the SIVE on the land of Guinate, which was not the agreed one. In addition, he assures that the Government Delegation has given the City Council ten days to grant the necessary permits to locate the radar where it had been agreed.
The Government group expressed last week its disagreement with the installation of the SIVE in the Guinate viewpoint, assuring that the Government “did not respect the proposal of Haría”. However, the PSOE spokesperson has stated on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero that "the reality is that in March there was a meeting of the mayoress, with more personalities and with the head of the Civil Guard in the Canary Islands, in which it was agreed that it would be located a little above, where there are now some antennas”.
In that meeting, Villalba maintains that it was agreed that “the Haría City Council would be in charge of granting permission in that area”, since it was a “private property”. However, the socialist spokesperson has stated that the government delegate told him that the Consistory “had done nothing to provide availability to those 25 or 30 square meters”. Villalba added that Pestana himself has conveyed the information to the current mayor, Víctor Robayna, and according to the socialist spokesperson, since this Tuesday members of the municipal government "were already in contact with the owner of that land".
“That is the reality, that the Haría City Council, members of Coalición Canaria, have done absolutely nothing so that the availability of the land was in the hands of the Ministry of the Interior, so that the famous SIVE could be placed”, Villalba has denounced, who also recognizes that from the PSOE they express the “outright rejection” to the location proposed by the Interior Ministry. However, he insists that if the SIVE ends up being placed in that place, “there are culprits for neglecting their duties”.
For Alfredo Villalba, this is an example of the “manifest and absolute ineffectiveness” of the government group in Haría, and he has also highlighted that the City Council has been “with the mayor's office closed for approximately a month and a half”. “They are more aware of the differences they have in the government group, to see who governs or who is given the baton, and in the meantime absolutely nobody does their job”, the socialist spokesperson has criticized.
“For a handful of votes I am not going to speak out against the installation of that center for minors”
Alfredo Villalba has also given his opinion in reference to the installation of a center for immigrant minors in the Pardelas Park of Órzola, after the statements of the mayoress of Haría showing her “disagreement and opposition”, as well as the association of neighbors of Órzola.
“I understand the concern that may exist, especially when the Haría City Council has been in charge of saying that they do not have sufficient means to ensure security”, the socialist spokesperson has stated, who maintains that with these statements “it is assumed that the people who are going to be staying are criminals”.
Villalba has assured that the people of Haría “are not xenophobic or racist”, but warns that the City Council must be “very careful” with the statements they make, and recalls that “the human drama that exists is terrible”.
“Both formations have used the ability to be close to immigrants during this period, and when the government decides that some facilities must be placed, they oppose it”, Villalba has also criticized. The spokesperson has also recalled that the same ones who recognized “the work of the people of Órzola”, in relation to the tragedy that occurred there a year ago, and in June of this year, and who “used that drama to express their support and solidarity on social networks”, are the ones who now “are able to criticize and encourage the population of Órzola to not install the headquarters”.
Villalba has also criticized the discourse of Coalición Canaria, recalling that “there are also minors in Tinajo”, and that the formation is not able to tell them otherwise “because it is true that they have shown solidarity with the people of La Santa and Yaiza during this time”.
“For a handful of votes I am not going to speak out against the installation of that center for minors. Because I was close to them and the drama that is lived”, Alfredo Villalba has sentenced.
