The Tinajo City Council has come out to "forcefully" deny that there has been a Covid outbreak in a gym in the municipality as notified by the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands.

“No coronavirus case has been detected in any gym in Tinajo. What has been published is false and, for the safety and greater tranquility of our neighbors and users of the Tinajero sports facilities, we have to come out to deny the false information,” said the mayor, Jesús Machín.

"From the Canarian Health Service, the person in charge of the trackers has personally confirmed to me that no case has occurred in our sports facilities so far, denying what was published in Lanzarote," added Machín after the statement sent by Health last Wednesday.

In addition, the mayor wanted to value "the work that is being carried out in Tinajo to fight against Covid-19 since March 2020, an immense job since the beginning of the pandemic." "Both the staff and councilors of the city council, security forces, Civil Protection, health personnel and the vast majority of the population of Tinajo have been focused on prioritizing safety and closely following the protocols established against the virus. Thank you all for the effort, your civility and your unlimited responsibility,” concluded Jesús Machín.

After these statements by the first mayor of Tinajo, the Lanzarote Health Area has confirmed to La Voz that the only outbreak in a gym that currently exists on the island has been registered in Teguise.
