The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, José Valle, held a meeting this week in Madrid with Gustavo Santana, president of Puertos del Estado
This is the first meeting between the two since Santana's appointment in April of this year, and its main objective was to address two key issues for the Port of Arrecife: the execution of pending infrastructures and the operation of the freight maritime line
During the meeting, the President of the Chamber conveyed the interest of the business sector and local administrations in carrying out the last pending intervention in the port: the expansion of the Naos cruise pier to connect it with the southern breakwater. This action will allow for an increase in cruise ship berthing capacity in an area close to the city and improve the utilization of its potential.
Valle requested that this investment be included in the business plan of the Port Authority of Las Palmas for 2027, once the final project is available in 2026.
Another of the topics discussed was the recent modification of the Public Service Obligation line schedules, which affects the arrival of goods to the island.
Gustavo Santana showed his interest in both matters and, with his experience in port infrastructures and knowledge of the sector in the Canary Islands, confirmed that **they will be followed up on.**
"The commitment of Puertos del Estado and the Port Authorities to the development of the state-owned port system has helped to strengthen the competitiveness and strategic role of the port of Arrecife in the island economy," explain those from the Chamber.
In the words of José Valle: "The Port of Arrecife continues to be a key economic engine for Lanzarote. It is essential to **coordinate the island's main institution, the Port Authority, and the Chamber of Commerce** to materialize these investments and ensure the island's logistical operations as quickly as possible."--
