Lanzarote has registered four new Covid outbreaks in the last week, according to the Ministry of Health. One of them in a restaurant in San Bartolomé affecting five people, another in the workplace in Arrecife with three associated cases and another of a sporting nature in a crossfit in Tinajo with six people involved.
In the Canary Islands as a whole, there have been 176 new outbreaks in the last week, which is a decrease compared to the 184 reported seven days ago. To the 176 new outbreaks we must add 72 old ones, making 248. In total, the new outbreaks add up to 826 cases, a decrease of 153 cases compared to the 979 reported the previous week. Of these, 96 have occurred on the island of Gran Canaria, 69 in Tenerife, five in Fuerteventura, four in Lanzarote and two in La Gomera.
By area in which they have occurred, 81 are family outbreaks, most of them from different homes; 48 are social outbreaks; 33 are work-related with family ramifications in a large part of them; six in socially vulnerable groups; four educational, two sports, one health and one social health.
In a generic way, the number of people involved in each outbreak has also decreased. Almost 80 percent of the outbreaks this week have between three and five people associated and only 5 outbreaks exceed the figure of 10 affected, two of them related to socially vulnerable groups, such as the migrant group or those admitted to juvenile centers, two linked to the workplace and educational environment and one on a passenger ship.
Among the work-related outbreaks, the one reported on a passenger ship in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with eleven affected, nine of them workers, and another in an office in Agüimes with 10 associated cases stand out as the most numerous. Among the work-related outbreaks, another one registered on a passenger ship and one on a cruise ship, both in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and with four people affected each, also stand out.
In restaurants there have been eight outbreaks: two in Tenerife (in Granadilla de Abona and Santa Cruz de Tenerife), with two and six associated cases; four in Gran Canaria (in San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), with three, three, three and four cases; one in Lanzarote (San Bartolomé) with five people affected, and another in Fuerteventura (La Oliva) with three associated cases. Related to nightlife there is an outbreak in San Bartolomé de Tirajana that affects three people.
Six work-related outbreaks linked to hotels and other tourist establishments have also been registered, which have affected workers and families: two in Gran Canaria (Ingenio and San Bartolomé de Tirajana) with five and three associated cases; two in Tenerife (Candelaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife), one in Fuerteventura (Pájara) and one in Lanzarote (Arrecife), the latter all with three associated cases.
With respect to sports outbreaks, two have been registered this week: one related to boxing with five affected in Santa Lucía de Tirajana and another with crossfit in Tinajo with six people involved.
The four educational outbreaks correspond to two early childhood education centers in Santa Lucía de Tirajana and Telde, with eleven and eight affected respectively, and to two training centers in Adeje with five and three affected.
The health outbreak is reported at the University Hospital of the Canary Islands, with two patients and one worker affected.
The social health outbreak occurred in the Hogar Santísimo Cristo de La Laguna and affects two workers and one resident.
In addition to the new outbreaks, 72 old outbreaks are still being monitored, such as that of a nightlife venue in Pájara, which has grown from 19 to 42 in the last two weeks, or a social one, with sports and family ramifications, which occurred in Ingenio, which already has 42 affected.
