The spokesperson for the Renovating Movement of Tinajo (MRT), Antonio Morales, accuses the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Casimiro Machín, of violating the law and the plenary agreement signed at the beginning of the legislature. "Since October of last year, no ordinary plenary session has been held in Tinajo, when in reality they should have been held both last December and in February of this year," Morales points out
"The mayor is once again ignoring the will of the Plenary and what the regulations establish by calling an ordinary plenary session outside the planned deadlines and dates," the political group denounced in a statement issued this Wednesday. The spokesperson for the Renovating Movement of Tinajo recalls that the plenary agreement establishes that since July 2019, ordinary sessions "will be held on the first Wednesday of each even month, and not on the second Wednesday of odd months."
Regarding the modification of the plenary session days, MRT recognizes that the law establishes that "the frequency and date of the celebration can be modified." However, it recalls that to do so, there must be an agreement between the political groups that are part of the plenary session and they must have a reason.
“Jesús Machín is once again violating the current laws, continues to disrespect the sovereignty of the people of Tinajo, and thus prevents the opposition from presenting initiatives during the year, despite the fact that that plenary agreement was at the initiative of the government group,” he accuses.
The opposition perceives it as a veto
Antonio Morales insists that the lack of convocation of plenary sessions and the fact of not convening them when appropriate constitutes a "veto to the opposition." The situation makes it difficult for the corporation to carry out oversight and action in the face of municipal management. The plenary session convened for this Thursday, March 9, is not valid in the opinion of the party: "Not even the documentation provided, the motions presented, and the appearances that we have requested months ago are included.”
Likewise, AMT insists that “the call only includes two motions and it is not specified which ones, so we do not know what we will debate and if our proposals are on the agenda.”
“This is no longer a mistake, but information is being deliberately hidden and it is something to worry about now,” says the party's spokesperson, Antonio Morales. “If what the government group of Tinajo intends is to silence us, they will not achieve it and we will not allow it. This gives us more strength to continue fighting for strict compliance with the law and for respect for the residents of the municipality. If it is already serious not to comply with the law, it seems even more serious to us that the mayor does not worry about the problems, the economy, and employment in the municipality,” Morales states.
In this line, Morales highlights that they are still awaiting three appearances that the party would have requested on November 15 for the ordinary plenary session that was not held in December. The first appearance, in relation to the possible overnight stay of people in the La Santa teleclub, another linked to the current situation of the General Plan of the municipality, and a third referring to the supply cuts of Canal Gestión in Tinajo.
On the other hand, on December 4, the MRT also presented two motions that are still not being debated to this day, “one related to the Island Plan of Lanzarote and another on the Regulatory Ordinance of Urban Solid Waste (RSU)."
