The National Police has dismantled one of the most important criminal organizations, dedicated to drug trafficking and money laundering in the province of Las Palmas, which operated from Lanzarote, hiding narcotics in packages of potatoes and onions. According to La Provincia, the rally driver Alfredo Guerra, known as El Limón, and a native of Tías, who was arrested last December, was at the head of it.

So far, the operation has resulted in 20 arrests, the seizure of more than 160 kilos of drugs and the imprisonment of twelve people.

The police investigation began in June 2024, when a person residing in Gran Canaria was arrested in Lanzarote while picking up a package containing narcotics inside.

The police officers initiated the investigation called Operación Cítrico in Lanzarote, after observing the high standard of living of this well-known rally driver, who was found not to be engaged in any work activity.

The police operation involved agents from Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, who worked together, after verifying that the criminal organization used workers from logistics companies operating between both islands to hide the narcotics among the packages, for their subsequent distribution and delivery to the members of the gang.

During the investigation phase, it was possible to detect, locate and seize several suspicious packages inside which it was verified that they contained drugs, which were identified with a logo of a lemon drawn.

From that finding, a police device composed of several phases was set up, in which 4 entries and searches were carried out in homes, seizing 96 kg of cocaine, 3 kg of amphetamines, 1 kg of crystal, 1 kg of heroin, 60 kg of hashish, 100 gr of pink cocaine, high-end vehicles, a Rally vehicle and more than 53,000 euros in cash.

The police action allowed to identify the recipients of the drug and dismantle the criminal structure. In total, the operation lasted approximately 10 months, ending in April 2025.
