The Renovating Movement of Tinajo criticizes Jesús Machín's "shamelessness"

The Renovating Movement of Tinajo has described as "lamentable" what happened in the Plenary Session held this Wednesday, in which the mayor rejected all its proposals, while acknowledging that he is aware of the municipality's problems for years but still does not provide solutions. "He is not ashamed when he answers 'we are working on it' to all motions," denounces the party's spokesperson, Antonio Morales, who emphasizes that what he did was to transfer historical demands of the residents.

"He admits that he has been aware of the problems for years, which remain the same, and he has not been able to solve them. And he sees it with joy and even rejects the opposition's proposals. It is incredible that the mayor is not there nor is he expected," questions Morales, who recalls that Jesús Machín has been in the Mayor's Office for 20 years. "We regret that he continues to act in this way and that he is leading the municipality to a point of no return," he warns.

Among other motions, the Renovating Movement of Tinajo brought one to this last Plenary Session asking to provide a solution to several streets in the municipality that do not comply with the measures to be two-way and are not properly signposted. "At the request of the residents, we asked him to speak with them and reach an agreement to see which direction was better to maintain, leaving them in one direction, signposting them well and putting parking on one side, to avoid the conflicts that are created in some streets," explains the councilor of the MRT.

However, the mayor's response was that "he had been working on that for years and was trying to reach an agreement" with the residents. "He acknowledges in the Plenary Session that he has been working on this for years, years!, and has not been able to solve the problem. The truth is that it is regrettable," denounces Antonio Morales.

In the session, the party also requested two appearances of the mayor, one of them to inform what project he had for the Isleta de La Santa, which has also been in abandonment for years. "What he confirmed to us is that he has no project. He had submitted a request for a concession of a part of the lake, but he has not submitted a project. And the only meeting he had with Coast technicians took place in 2015. That is, in recent years he has done nothing nor has he tried to work hand in hand with Coasts to be able to clean up and improve that area of La Santa."

In the other appearance, the Renovating Movement of Tinajo asked the mayor if he had a clear project to generate economy and employment, highlighting the singularities of the municipality. "The only thing he answered us is that he has a lot of projects, such as paving, repaving, this work or that other, but we were not asking him about that. The works are fine, but what we requested is a specific project to generate economy," emphasizes Morales, who defends that what is necessary to define is how to attract tourism to the municipality.

"How do we highlight that we have a national park so that people come to Tinajo, how do we highlight that we have a first-class local product, a gastronomy, good wines, rural houses, spectacular trails to do any sports activity or to attract people who do hang gliding... But he didn't have anything in relation to that either," he laments.

"Unfortunately, we hear again from the mayor 'we are working on that'. He acknowledges in the Plenary Session that he has been dealing with situations such as the streets to put in one way for years and has not solved it. And he acknowledges that Tinajo needs an economic boost to generate employment, but he has not done it either after so many years, and despite the time we have been insisting on it from the Renovating Movement of Tinajo," questions Morales.

A "lamentable and petty" attitude

Regarding another of the motions that the party brought to the Plenary Session, it received the same response. In this case, it urged the City Council to join the Spanish Urban Agenda, which is a strategy promoted by the central Government since 2019, in collaboration with the European Union. "The municipalities can join and it is necessary to draft a document that highlights the strengths of the municipality and also identifies its weaknesses, with the aim of generating economy and employment, highlighting what we have already claimed many times: rural area, agriculture, local product, gastronomy, environment, sustainability..." explains Antonio Morales.

However, again the proposal was rejected, alleging that they were already working on something similar with the Chamber of Commerce. "We say that it is very good and we support it, but we understand that one thing is compatible with the other. This is a matter of the Ministry and also aligned with the European Union," he highlights.

The other motion of the MRT that the government group refused to support, requested a recognition to all the people of the municipality who continued to provide essential services during the period of confinement at the beginning of the pandemic. "They risked their lives and provided a service so that we could have the minimum to survive, and we asked that a recognition be made through a bust, a parchment... any type of recognition that the government group considered appropriate," says Antonio Morales.

However, they also rejected it, because "the mayor understands that it was enough with what he has said in the media or in some press release, giving thanks and little more." For Morales, it is "lamentable and petty that he considers that this is the only recognition that the residents of the municipality who were on the front line during the confinement helping people deserve."
