The Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa held an informative day this Wednesday on the “Zero Quota Subsidy from the Government of the Canary Islands for new self-employed workers”.
The event was attended by the president of the Chamber, José Valle Martínez; the Deputy Minister of Economy and Internationalization of the Government of the Canary Islands, Gustavo González de Vega; and the general director of Self-Employed of the Government of the Canary Islands, Mónica Nuez Ramos.
During the day, all the details of the Zero Quota subsidy were presented, which allows new Canary Island self-employed workers to request a refund of the fees paid to Social Security during the first 12 months of activity.
This aid aims to promote self-employment and support the start of professional activity on your own.
Valle highlighted the fact that “entrepreneurship is not easy, it requires effort, perseverance, and is often done with limited resources. From the Chamber of Commerce we believe that these conferences are essential because it is not enough for aid to exist, it is important that citizens know it, understand it and know how to access it”.
For his part, Deputy Minister Gustavo González de Vega pointed out that “this meeting has served to convey essential information to entrepreneurs: the possibility of covering the costs of the flat rate of Social Security during the first year of activity thanks to the Zero Quota subsidy”. He stressed that “in a context of uncertainty such as that faced by those who decide to undertake, it is essential to offer them the necessary tools”.
In this sense, he explained that the measure is being very well received among new entrepreneurs, and that during 2024 more than 500 applications were submitted, of which almost half have already been granted, with a total amount greater”.
The general director of Self-Employed of the Government of the Canary Islands, Mónica Nuez, offered a presentation in which she detailed both the deadlines and the electronic procedure to request this aid.
In her speech, she stressed that “applications must be formalized within a maximum period of two months after the end of each period of twelve months of enjoying the corresponding reduction or bonus”.
