The Canarian Vacation Rental Association ASCAV has joined the National Federation of Associations of Self-Employed Workers (ATA) to defend the professionals of Vacation Homes in the Canary Islands.

ASCAV recalls that 89% of vacation rentals in the archipelago are in the hands of small owners, but in reality, many prefer to relegate the management of their properties to professionals or companies in this sector.

Sometimes because they are "outside the Canary Islands, others because they are too old to self-manage their property, because they do not have time to provide the quality service that is required, due to physical impossibility, due to difficulties in handling languages, etc."

Currently, it is estimated that approximately 15% of the management of vacation properties is carried out by professionals in the sector and this professionalization, in addition to being consolidated, is increasing. The vacation home sector in the Canary Islands has a direct economic impact on the islands of more than 1,700 million euros.

ASCAV explains that generally the vacation home in the islands follows a natural process that goes "first through the self-management of the property, then, by opening the way to a professional activity developed by thousands of self-employed workers to, finally, end up constituting companies when the fiscal demands and the volume of activity so requires".

The Canarian Vacation Rental Association considers that this is "very positive for the Canary Islands because the professional and business activity means the consolidation of a fabric that creates opportunities for both young people and those who, once over 50 years of age, have difficulties in finding employment or even for single-parent families who can only reconcile caring for their family with a more versatile job".

That is why ASCAV has considered it "vital" to join ATA to defend the interests of all self-employed workers in the sector.

The collaboration, within the scope of the competences and associative objectives, seeks the greatest possible benefit for the self-employed workers in this sector and for the self-employed workers in general.

Among its shared objectives is to defend the interests of the self-employed both from the state and regional level before the Public Administrations.
