The Arrecife Podemos circle has demanded that the mayoress, Ástrid Pérez, reverse the request to remove the autocovid from the Fairgrounds to celebrate the upcoming Carnival festivities. "The statements of the delegate of the health area, Noelia Umpiérrez, have set off alarms in the civilian population and health authorities, whom Astrid Pérez leaves without alternatives to continue performing coronavirus detection tests without collapsing the accesses to the hospital or health centers", emphasizes the purple formation.

The Arrecife Podemos circle considers that due to the “whim of the mayoress to celebrate the carnivals at all costs, the health of the citizens of Arrecife is put at risk” and demands that she postpone the celebration of the same, as other cities are already doing.

“Arrecife must celebrate its carnival, but it must do so with all the guarantees, so that both citizens and groups can enjoy those days without fear”, says Myriam Barros, municipal spokesperson for the purple formation.

Similarly, the Arrecife Podemos circle understands that “if we have to look for alternatives, let them be for the celebration of the carnival and not to move the autocovid”, which they understand is "providing a great service to both the city of Arrecife and the entire island, avoiding the saturation of the already battered access to the Molina Orosa hospital".

“From Podemos Arrecife we demand the immediate cessation of this complete nonsense and that the mayoress forget about the eviction of the autocovid, which is now more necessary than ever given the large number of diagnoses that are being made”, concluded the spokesperson.

The circle has also wanted to convey a message of "encouragement and support" to the murgas, comparsas and other carnival groups. “We are aware of the great effort they make to comply with all the health protocols and the responsibility they demonstrate even by suspending rehearsals to take care of the health of their families and the entire city. We will do everything possible to ensure that the City Council comes to its senses and postpones the celebration to dates when they can show off the work and enthusiasm they have".
