Victoriano faces his third week of protest in La Graciosa: "I have not had a response from the City Council"

Although the Councilor for Urban Planning assured that "everything possible" was being done to grant him a license to finish and divide his home, this resident of La Graciosa states that she has not contacted him: "I wish she had called me."

Victoriano Hernández continues with the protest he started on September 28th in front of the Municipal Office of La Graciosa, demanding a license to finish and divide his home. "I have not had any response from the City Council, neither from the mayor nor from the councilor of the area," says this resident of La Graciosa.

15 days ago, the Councilor for Urban Planning, Olivia Duque, defended that the City Council was doing "everything possible" to provide a solution to this resident of the eighth island, with whom she claimed to have met on many occasions. However, Victoriano assures that, since he started the protest, she has not contacted him.

"I wish she had called me and encouraged me in that sense to stop being here, that she or the mayor would call me, although it has been so many years that they have told me the same thing, that I no longer believe anything," says this man, who even claims that he has tried to meet with the mayor in these weeks without success.

"I requested an appointment online and another through the phone, which was suspended due to Covid and they told me they would call me, but quite a few days have passed," he says.

Also, this resident of La Graciosa insists that he has been fighting for more than eight years to get the license, a fact that was denied by Olivia Duque, who said that the process began in 2017. "It is true that the license was requested in 2017 because the architect gave us the contract finished that year, but the first time my ex-wife went to the City Council to see if we could use the municipal architect, who told us yes, that we met the requirements, was eleven years ago," says Victoriano.

More than 300 signatures collected

In addition to continuing his protest every day, from 09:00 to 14:00, this resident of La Graciosa says that he has already collected "more than 300 signatures" of support, among which he claims is that of the councilor delegate of La Graciosa, Alicia Páez. "She told me that she supported me but nothing more," Victoriano points out.

"I think the easiest thing would be for her to call her government team and take an interest in the matter, that maybe she has already called and taken an interest, but she has not told me anything," laments this resident of La Graciosa.
