Local Police in Arrecife arrested A.I., 21 years old and a native of Morocco, last Monday, when he was allegedly threatening several people with a knife in public. The detainee, who was "very aggressive and in a high state of nervousness" with the agents, according to the Police, even went so far as to "brandish the weapon against them, uttering insults and threatening them with death."
According to the police report, the events took place on Monday night, around 9:30 p.m., when agents were warned that "a person of Moroccan origin, short in stature, and wearing short jeans, had threatened several people with a knife in public."
Upon arriving at the Parque de los Pinos area, while patrolling the Titerroy neighborhood, they heard "loud shouts" and observed the now-detained individual, along with another person, "shouting and carrying a knife in his right hand, in a high state of nervousness."
When the agents approached the alleged aggressor, asking him to leave the knife on the ground and calm down, he confronted "the police officers brandishing the knife and uttering insults, threatening to kill the agents if they continued to approach."
The arrival of a third police officer at the scene precipitated the flight of the now-detained individual, who left the knife on the ground. After being intercepted about 20 meters away, he began "assaulting the agents with kicks and punches, inviting them to take off their uniforms to kill them."
Finally, "and using force, and without injuring him," according to the agents, they managed to subdue the individual, transferring him to the Valterra Health Center "to treat the wounds that," according to the Police, "he had inflicted on himself on his forearms."
The detainee, who is accused of a crime of assault and attack against law enforcement agents, was later transferred to police facilities and placed at the disposal of the judicial authority.
