A total of 58,148 vehicles of non-residents in Lanzarote have accessed the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches, in Playa Blanca, in the first six months of the year. This is clear from the data offered by the Yaiza City Council, at the request of La Voz.

In order for a private vehicle to access the Papagayo beaches, people who are not residents on the island must pay three euros per car, while residents are exempt from payment. This service is controlled by the Yaiza City Council.

Between January and June of this year, 174,444 euros had been collected, or what is the same, 58,148 vehicles of non-residents had passed. In this way, an average of 9,691 vehicles of non-residents enter this protected natural space monthly, to which must be added the cars, motorcycles and caravans of the locals.

Last year, in the first seven months of the year, between January and July, 48,000 vehicles had accessed, which means that the pressure on this space has grown significantly.

Thus, throughout last year, a total of 103,941 vehicles of non-residents entered the Papagayo beaches. In total, 311,825 euros were collected last 2024 between the first and the last month of the year.

25 years ago, an access fee was implemented in Papagayo to the natural space of Los Ajaches for those who wanted to enter using a vehicle. Since then, non-resident visitors in Lanzarote must face a fee of three euros per vehicle to spend the day in the natural park.

Despite this collection, again during this summer the access point does not control the passage of all vehicles and during some days of the month it is allowing entry without control. Sources from the Yaiza consistory attribute this lack of control to the medical leave of one of the employees.
