Only 1.9% of Canarian households with a single vehicle own a hybrid or electric car, a figure that grows in parallel to 10.4% in households with more than four vehicles.
This is according to a study carried out by the company Informes Mecánicos, a car appraisal website, with data from the National Statistics Institute (INE).
According to the report, the determining factor for a household to have a hybrid or electric vehicle is its economic capacity. 0.8% of households earning between 500 and 1,000 euros per month own a vehicle of these characteristics, a circumstance that occurs more frequently in 6.5% of households with incomes between 5,000 and 7,500 euros.
In addition, the study shows that households with a garage in the same building are more likely to opt for a hybrid or electric vehicle (2.9%) compared to households that park on the street or in another building (1.6%).
Hybrid or electric vehicles are more affected by the climate, which is why having a garage can be a determining factor when deciding on a vehicle of these characteristics.
More frequent with higher educational level
Regarding educational level, households with more members with higher education have, as a percentage, more hybrid or electric vehicles compared to those households in which members do not have higher education.
Finally, the number of people living in the household is also a key factor. Households with more members have different needs than, for example, single-person households. This leads them to own more vehicles and, consequently, increases the chances that at least one of them is hybrid or electric.
Thus, 1.6% of single-person households own a hybrid or electric vehicle, a figure that in the case of households with four members reaches 3%.
