The Lanzarote Business Confederation (CEL) has proposed the creation of a defined and joint strategy to consolidate the good employment figures on the island, after learning that unemployment data has fallen again in Lanzarote.

Specifically, it registered 217 fewer unemployed people in the month of June, registering 9,638 citizens registered with the Canarian Employment Service (SCE). For his part, the president of the CEL, Francisco Martínez, has celebrated the positive data provided by the monthly report issued by the Canarian Employment Observatory, and stated that the next objective is the consolidation of these figures.

“To do this, we must reinforce the commitment to several fundamental axes for the functioning of the labor market, such as inter-administrative cooperation, the training of the unemployed and of certain sectors that need to grow and become professionalized, or the inclusion of the most vulnerable groups in the labor market”, the president highlighted.

Martínez pointed out that collaboration between economic and social agents is key to putting efforts into this strategy and to helping small business owners and workers overcome current and short-term future difficulties such as the war in Ukraine and the consequent inflation we are suffering.

On the other hand, promoting training is another of the basic axes to further lower unemployment figures, providing learning tools for citizens and providing companies with new hiring opportunities. In the same line, “training would contribute to the professionalization of sectors that are in full growth or for which we must bet with increasing force, such as the primary sector or clean energy”, he points out.

Finally, a large percentage of people in unemployment belong to more vulnerable groups, “so we insist on the importance of programs such as the ‘Lanzarote Employability Plan 2021/2022’, through which from the CEL we seek to promote employability among unemployed people with difficult labor insertion, to give alternatives to these people and help companies incorporate these profiles into their staff”, concluded Francisco Martínez.
