The residents of San Juan and Brasil streets in Arrecife woke up last Thursday with the surprise that the Local Police had fined the vehicles parked on both roads, as the resident card that allows them to park in that area had expired. In this regard, a neighbor has contacted La Voz to report that the City Council has been "six months without a mobility technician", which has prevented them from renewing their accreditations.

"I have emails with the Police in which I attach the documentation that proves that it is not that we do not want to renew," she says. In fact, she explains that in January, when the cards expired, she went to the Local Police of Arrecife to find out how residents could avoid being sanctioned. "They told me that it was a matter for the City Council, and that they only received orders," she says.

For their part, from the City Council they told him that "nothing happened" if the card was expired, and described the absence of a mobility technician as "a bureaucratic issue." The neighbor assures that this situation "has upset" the neighbors, who have not only seen how the agents have fined their vehicles, but have also been "prohibited" from parking, despite the fact that as residents they have the right to do so.

"What cannot be done is to fine without communicating it," criticizes the neighbor, who reproaches the City Council for not informing the neighbors of the decision, although they did so "with the workers of the nearby shops" who, despite not having the identification card as a resident to park, were parked in the place. "That is not done," she laments.

Some of the neighbors went to the City Council on Friday to file a formal complaint, while the neighbor has requested a meeting with the mayor. According to them, from the City Council they indicated that they should make "a statement of defense", because those fines "were not appropriate." In addition, this Monday they have also gone to the Local Police to ask for explanations for the fines, and they assure that they continued throughout the weekend, despite the fact that the neighbors placed the registration form on their windshields, following the instructions given to them by the Arrecife City Council. "The Police said that after all they do their job, and fine expired cards," says the neighbor.

"We are going to do things right, we are going to sit down all the neighbors who are affected and we are going to look for an alternative," says this affected person, who adds that in the area "there are elderly people", and that "access must be guaranteed" to them.
