Overnight, a viral publication on social networks can change the reality of a destination. This is what has happened to the Las Grietas area in Lanzarote. In recent years, this space has become popular among tourists who, camera or smartphone in hand, decide to go to Montaña Blanca to observe these rock formations and share it on Instagram or TikTok.
Last November, the Cabildo of Lanzarote announced that it was considering the possibility of closing the parking lot, a small, unpaved and unmarked turnout located on the LZ-35 between San Bartolomé and Tías, to enable trail networks that would allow visitors to safely access the site. However, that has not yet happened.
For the moment, and as a reader reports to La Voz, this space welcomes hundreds of people on weekends who leave their cars in unauthorized spaces, to cross the road or through a water passage to reach this space. "It's crazy. There is no one here with little signs that say don't go here, don't climb here or don't throw shit," reveals the reader.
"If there is no one eating from this, they are not going to do anything," he adds. Between signs, closing paths with elements that blend in with the environment and hiring a person to inform: you get people out of unemployment, the ways. I see people who look like ants, causing erosion and damage that is irreversible and there is shit, mattresses, there is everything."
