A citizen has reported the uncontrolled presence of vehicles and visitors to the area of Las Grietas on the LZ-35 road between San Bartolomé and Tías.

Dozens of websites and social media accounts inform tourists how to get to this point on the island, which has become an increasingly frequent visit among Instagram users. To do this, they park on a piece of land, next to the road, but it is not enabled for that use. At the same time, travelers cross a two-lane road where vehicles circulate at high speed in order to make the visit.

At the beginning of this year, a Polish tourist was injured after suffering a fall in this space. In addition, different political parties have warned of the danger of the increase in visitors to this space. "It is a security problem," the Canary Coalition councilor in Tías, Amado Vizcaíno, denounced a few months ago in the face of images of vehicles parked in said space.

At the same time, the Cabildo of Lanzarote assessed at the end of 2022 the possibility of closing the Las Grietas car park and enabling trails for safer access, although a solution has not yet been found.
