The future stars of Canarian wrestling in Lanzarote are coming on strong. The base of the vernacular sport is in good health, a circumstance that was demonstrated this past weekend at the Regional Weight Championship in the cadet category. The wrestlers from Lanzarote were the great dominators of the competition. They brought home three champion titles and three runner-up titles.
The island champions by weight in the cadet category traveled to the island of Gran Canaria, specifically to the town of Valsequillo. The José Manuel Hernández arena hosted the Canary Islands Weight Championship. A competition in which the best wrestlers from the Canary Islands in the cadet category met. Before the start of the competition, the wrestlers were weighed and the category in which each one was going to compete was determined.
The titles of champion of the Canary Islands went to Saúl Martín (CL Unión Sur Yaiza), Álvaro Torres (CL Unión Sur Yaiza) and Sixto Rodríguez (CL Tao). For their part, the wrestlers from Lanzarote who obtained the title of runner-up were: Alejandro Martín (CL Tao), Alejandro Umpiérrez (CL Unión Sur Yaiza) and Josua Falcón (CL San Bartolomé). The Lanzarote expedition was led by the commander Sixto Rodríguez, technician of the Lanzarote Federation of Canarian Wrestling.
In the competition of less than 60 kilos, Saúl Martín, wrestler of the CL Unión Sur Yaiza, won in the grand final against Cristian Rodríguez from La Palma. From 66 to 73 kilos, the Yaiza wrestler, Álvaro Torres, defeated Ruymán Díaz from Tenerife in the final. And in the category of more than 110 kilos, Sixto Rodríguez, wrestler of the CL Tao, got rid of Alberto Cabrera from La Palma in the final. Without a doubt, this was one of the best fights of the night, between two fighters who have a very promising future.
Alejandro Martín from CL Tao had less luck in the category of 60 to 66 kilos, being eliminated in the grand final by Daniel Arrocha from Tenerife. In the category of 81 to 90 kilos, Alejandro Umpiérrez from CL Unión Sur Yaiza was eliminated in the grand final against Eusebio Díaz from the island of Tenerife. And Josua Falcón, wrestler of the CL San Bartolomé, in the category of 100 to 110 kilos, was defeated in the final by Josua Suárez from Gran Canaria. The three wrestlers from Lanzarote had to settle for the title of runner-up of the Canary Islands.
