The facilities of the Agapito Reyes Viera in Altavista have been assaulted several times this week by friends of others. CD Arrecife, a club that has a material room on the football field, has been the most affected, seeing how the thieves have seized all the balls they had to train and part of the equipment of several teams. The thieves forced the door of the material room and took everything inside.
In recent months, this football stadium has been characterized by being almost abandoned, without any public official doing anything to solve the deficiencies that the facility currently has.
After several days of rest, motivated by the Carnival festivities, the CD Arrecife teams returned to training and did so with an unpleasant piece of news. The managers of the capital entity realized that the door of the material room had been forced, although the thieves had not been able to access the interior. That day, the club had to break the lock to be able to access the interior and make use of the sports equipment in the training sessions of the different teams.
The company in charge of maintaining and caring for the sports facilities of Arrecife, Volconsa, refused to repair the door that had been forced, according to sources close to the matter. Apparently, those responsible for this company stated that they did not have material to proceed with its repair, and as a provisional solution a chain was placed to try to close the door.
On the night of last Sunday, the thieves returned to Agapito Reyes Viera and this time they were able to access the interior of the CD Arrecife material room. On Monday morning, the club reported the events to the National Police, with agents arriving at the area to collect fingerprints.
In addition, the acts of vandalism were repeated on Monday night to Tuesday. Early on Tuesday morning, the employee who is in charge of opening the facilities saw how two people were running away from inside the field, after being surprised by the worker.
With these acts of vandalism, CD Arrecife has lost more than 50 balls, part of the equipment of several teams and a first-aid kit. Several days have passed and the door has still not been repaired, so they cannot leave sports equipment inside the room so that it is not stolen again.
A facility in a state of abandonment
