Nicholas Peter Ward, a triathlete from Club Titanes, is destined to be one of the great figures in this sport and has shown an enviable progression over the last few seasons. He is another of the professional triathletes on the island of Lanzarote.
The options to fight for the podium in the Ironman Lanzarote 2010 vanished in Los Hervideros for Gregorio Cáceres. The Lanzarote triathlete suffered a fall, as a result of the tube coming out of the rim of one of the bicycle wheels. Gregorio was unable to fix the bicycle until the town of Tinajo, losing many minutes along the way.
For his part, Nicholas Peter Ward was having a race from less to more. In the cycling event he was cutting times and was placed among the top 10 classified. A progression that continued throughout the marathon event and allowed him to cross the finish line in sixth place. Nicholas Peter Ward fulfilled one of the objectives set, which was to finish in under 9 hours.
Gregorio Cáceres, enraged by the mechanical problems suffered, drew strength from weakness and was able to finish the race. Cáceres crossed the finish line in eleventh position, showing himself very disappointed with the result obtained. Gregorio received the support of the thousands of fans who were in Puerto del Carmen, and his friend Nicholas Peter Ward waited for him at the finish line to give him a big hug of support.
Aroa Merino remains the best Spanish woman in the Ironman Lanzarote
Despite not going out to compete and taking the race as just another training session. Aroa Merino once again demonstrated that she has no rivals in this race and became for the second consecutive year the best Spanish triathlete in the Ironman Lanzarote. The Lanzarote native Tamar González was third in the national ranking.
In the last month of competition, Aroa Merino has focused on other sporting goals. The Lanzarote native has faced several Half Marathon events, being the current champion of the Canary Islands. A fact that has reduced her chances of being able to prepare for the Ironman Lanzarote as she deserves. For this reason, Aroa Merino went out to compete with the aim of taking this edition as a training session.
It was not an impediment to be crowned as the best Spanish woman in the Ironman Lanzarote. Aroa Merino crossed the finish line in 18th position, with a time of 11 hours, 25 minutes and 57 seconds. The second Spanish woman was Mónica Montiel, and third would be the conejera Tamar González from the Titanes club. Tamar used a time of 12 hours, 21 minutes and 37 seconds.
Aroa Merino is preparing for her participation in the Ironman of England, which will take place at the beginning of August. A race in which she hopes to play a great role and be able to fight for one of the places that give the right to be in the World Championship in Hawaii.
