The season started in group A of the Men's First National Handball League, and CB San José Obrero began its journey in the category with a hard-fought victory against Automanía Luceros. The development of the match did not foreshadow the complicated outcome for the interests of the Lanzarote team, with Iñaki Malumbres' team having a lead of eleven goals. A lead that vanished in the last ten minutes, reaching the end of the match with a tight 30 to 31 in favor of San José Obrero.

The goals from Mikita Liavonau, Miguel Laguna and Ángel Iglesias increased the lead to three goals, with the Luceros coach requesting a time-out. The game resumed with a goal from Carmelo Álvarez and the first half concluded with a counterattack culminated by Ángel Iglesias, reflecting a clear 11 to 16 on the scoreboard.
CB San José Obrero continued to offer its best version in the first minutes of the second half. The period began with a 0-3 run with goals from Rafa Robayna, Óscar Silva and Miguel Laguna, forcing the Luceros coach to request another time-out. After the midpoint of the second half, CB San José Obrero established its maximum difference and had a lead of eleven goals (16-27). The Lanzarote team believed that all the work was already done, but there were more than ten minutes left until the end and Automanía Luceros began to defend with a very advanced defense. Malumbres requested a time-out with nine minutes remaining, when the scoreboard reflected 24 to 29, cutting a 6 to 1 run in favor of the Galicians.
With four minutes remaining, Ángel Iglesias scored to increase the lead to five goals (25-30). Automanía Luceros put fear into the Lanzarote team, achieving a 4 to 0 run and even having the last attacking play of the match. The San José Obrero defense did not allow the shot in the 6 seconds that remained until the end and the match ended with a free hit executed by Manuel Pérez, not finding the three posts.
Victory by 30 to 31 for CB San José Obrero Lanzarote against Automanía Luceros, achieving a victory that was too hard-fought after the way the match had unfolded. In the next match, CB San José Obrero will receive the historic Sociedad Deportiva Teucro.
