It had been a while since anyone in Lanzarote dared to visibly confront the leadership of Astrid Pérez, the mayor of Arrecife.
The last time, although she was not yet the Island president at that time, was at the 2008 congress, when Yolanda Perdomo, with the support of José Manuel Soria and in a team with me, ran for the island presidency, then in a management situation after the resignation of Alejandro Díaz.
At that time, by only two votes difference in the election of the delegates for Arrecife, Astrid won and to date.
Since then, almost 13 years ago, Astrid Pérez has been burning or boring several island secretaries. First the one who teamed up with her and gave her the victory in 2008: José Pablo Lemes, from Tías. Then Saray Rodríguez herself and later the former senator, Joel Delgado. The irrefutable fact is that no one relevant and with aspirations has endured alongside Astrid Pérez. The same happened to the former senator Oscar Luzardo, the national deputy Francisco Cabrera or who was his right hand Dacil Garcías.
Now, surprisingly in my opinion, Saray Rodríguez jumps into the ring knowing, because she is quite aware, that her possibilities are slim.
WHY SLIM POSSIBILITIES?
Saray Rodríguez and those who know the Statutes of the Popular Party know how the process is for the formation of the Island Congress that must elect the new president of the PP of Lanzarote.
Saray Rodríguez knows that in Tías, her fiefdom and where she is the municipal spokesperson in the Tias City Council, she will have it difficult because Pancho Hernandez, Kiko Aparicio and Nerea Santana are government councilors in the Cabildo of Lanzarote and it is understood that they are disciplined to the current Island president.
In San Bartolomé, even worse because Sergio Tejera, current president of the Local Committee and councilor in the City Council of San Bartolomé, is the personal secretary of Astrid Pérez in the City Council of Arrecife. It is true that Pedro Reyes, Juan Rivera and Lorenzo Reyes could have a lot of influence in San Bartolomé, if they wanted to.
And as far as Francisco Cabrera, Oscar Luzardo, Dácil Garcías and Joel Delgado are concerned, they could, if they propose it, generate some movement in Arrecife, to win all the delegates in the most numerous local committee. But, I don't see them in it. Among other things because I don't think they have a great devotion to the alternative candidate either.
