After the storm comes the calm. And that allows me, as I have
done in previous years, to reflect on the development of the
San Ginés festivities, with the aim of maintaining the successes in the
future and not repeating the mistakes.
First of all, I want to emphasize that the positive balance of the
celebrations is attributable to countless people, who have struggled to ensure that the program is strictly adhered to and meets the expectations of all the residents of our city.
Without a doubt, the sangineles are the result of a very well-oiled
teamwork, the collective effort of individuals and associations that
have faced, once again, the challenge of organizing the best parties.
I am referring, of course, to the staff of the Festivities Department of the
Arrecife City Council, a dream team in these struggles, dedicated and with clear ideas, but always willing to take a risk if the
result is worth it.
But I am also talking about the workers of the Department of Sports,
which is led by Paca Toledo, because without a doubt the offer of
sports activities, both exhibition and participation, has been
remarkable.
And of course, to the operators of the Technical Office, Traffic,
Cleaning, Culture? A good part of the municipal staff is involved
every August so that the patron saint festivities go
perfectly.
I must also mention with enormous gratitude the cultural
and sports entities, the folklore groups, the House of
Fear, the Sociedad Democracia, the Real Club Náutico? in many
cases, directly responsible for the organization of events of great
interest and quality.
During these two weeks, the residents have been the protagonists of the festivities. They are the ones who really subscribe with their presence and their applause to the good work done. And if something can be said about the 2012 sangineles, it is that they have been extremely participatory.
In the list of successes I consider worthy of mention the transfer to the
Charco of a good part of the festive program. Because it is an
incredibly beautiful space as a setting for any activity; because it is
a heritage of all citizens that must be enjoyed; and because some parties that aspire to recover the memory and local tradition have in that area their perfect wrapping.
Hand in hand with this decision and with the necessary anticipation, the
Festivities Department of the Arrecife City Council should review the rest of the meeting places in San Ginés, the fair, the tents for
concerts? so that all activities interact with each other
and are links in the same chain.
Austerity, an unavoidable term in these times, has
presided over the organization and development of the San Ginés festivities. The
budget has been radically reduced. But the
imagination, creativity, the aforementioned collective commitment and the
desire to enjoy have alleviated any deficiency.
Paraphrasing the English, who said goodbye to their monarchs and
received the new rulers with the cry of The king is dead, long live
the king!, I say to myself: San Ginés has ended, long live the next San
Ginés!
