Yaiza's garbage collectors return to work but are still unpaid

The workers of Limpieza y Transportes Pedro Santana, a company contracted by the Yaiza City Council to carry out garbage collection in the municipality, restarted their work last Friday the 20th after carrying out a strike since Monday the 16th. The reason for the suspension of work is that the employees are suffering from a delay in the payment of two payrolls.

As a measure of pressure, they paralyzed their work for five days, but this had no effect and they still have not received the last two monthly payments. Despite the lack of changes in the perception of their salaries, they restarted garbage collection on Friday, but warned that, if they do not receive the money owed to them before April 5, they will start an indefinite strike from that day. This was announced by the representative of the operators, William Barrera (UGT), complaining that they have not "solved anything" for them.

The delay in payments, according to the company, is due to the debt that the Yaiza City Council in turn maintains with them for the provision of this service. For its part, the Council admits that it owes almost three monthly payments, plus an amount delayed from previous years for the increase in the CPI, but adds that payments have never been so up to date as they are now.
