It was a new attempt to stop a strike that has been shaking the island's tourism sector for three days. This time before the Canary Islands Labor Court. The meeting, which lasted more than six hours, ended with a principle of agreement, in which the proposals of the EPEL management have been subject to study. This agreement will be transferred to all workers and if they get the support of the majority, the strike would be suspended as a precaution until next Monday, when an Assembly will be held where the proposal closed this Thursday will be voted on.
The mediation of the Canary Islands Labor Court has allowed the two negotiating parties to find a third way to save the two proposals that did not allow an agreement to be closed last Monday. A commission will study the request for the annual calculation of the working day and an audit will jointly analyze the situation of economic viability of the transport of personnel to determine a formula; in addition to the agreement on the 900 euros of the holiday bonus and the increase in school aid, retroactively to August 1, 2006, but the payment of temporary disability is maintained as in the current agreement.
The ratification of this proposal by the Assembly, by the Board of Directors of the Centers and by the plenary session of the Cabildo will definitively end the strike, but as the Assembly will not be held until next Monday, the sidical representatives will go center by center during Thursday afternoon to measure the pulse of the workers. In the event that they find the support of the majority, the strike could be called off this Thursday.
Meanwhile, the third day in the Centers has passed peacefully. Most of the facilities have been open to the public, with the exception of the Cueva de los Verdes, which remains closed for security reasons, and the Montañas de Fuego, which only accept buses accompanied by the tourist guide, as there are no service personnel.
