Retail sales at constant prices (adjusted for inflation) grew in the Canary Islands in June by 6.9% compared to the same month in 2024, seven tenths above the national average.
According to data published this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics, the sector finished the first semester in the islands with 2.3% more workers than in June of last year, an increase in employment that exceeds the average by two tenths.
In June, retail sales rose in all autonomous communities, with Catalonia leading the way, with an increase of 8.2%, followed by the Valencian Community, with 7.8%.
The commerce sector employs nearly 11,000 people in Lanzarote. In Arrecife, there are 5,104 workers, followed by San Bartolomé, where 2,021 people are dedicated to this sector.
In the municipalities of Tías (1,415) and Yaiza (1,023), they also exceed one thousand workers in the sector.
In Teguise, the commerce employees are 901, while in Haría and Tinajo, there are 173 and 186 people respectively.
