The Lanzarote Business Confederation (CEL) and the General Corps of the Canary Police have held a working commission to establish a new avenue of collaboration that will strengthen the fight against the underground economy on the island, within the framework of the project of the Observatory of Employment and the fight against the underground economy, promoted by the CEL and the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
The president of the business organization, Beatriz Salazar, the commissioner of the Canary Police, José Luis de los Reyes Almeida, and the head of the General Corps of the Canary Police, Antonio Almenara, participated in this working meeting with the aim of coordinating efforts and establishing mechanisms for joint action against unfair competition represented by undeclared economic activity.
The president of the CEL, Beatriz Salazar, stressed that "the underground economy not only harms companies that do comply with the law, but also affects the labor rights of workers and the public resources of Lanzarote, which harms the welfare of citizens and the provision of public services."
"This project aims to promote the culture of legal work, offer guarantees to citizens, because working without an invoice is working without guarantees and make visible all companies that are committed to quality and professional responsibility," she added. In this sense, she stressed the importance of "a preventive, pedagogical, guidance, advice and, when necessary, control work", always with the aim of promoting a strong, legal and competitive business fabric.
An anonymous channel to report
Beatriz Salazar stressed the importance of this channel, which can be used anonymously, as one of the key elements of this project that preserves confidentiality for those who report allegedly illegal activities. This is possible through this link.
Based on this information, the technicians of the business organization contact the allegedly irregular companies to advise, guide and accompany them to take the necessary step towards the legalization of their activity. In the event that, after a reasonable period, the business has not been regularized, the CEL will transfer the information to the Canary Police to act in accordance with current legislation.
With this initiative, the CEL reinforces its commitment to the sustainable economic development of Lanzarote and to the defense of fair competition among companies.
