It has been 28 years since seven fishermen died while fishing in Moroccan waters, aboard the "Cruz del Mar" fishing vessel. The causes are still unclear. While Morocco blamed the Polisario Front, arguing that it intended to prevent the exploitation of fishing in areas it considered its property, the Saharawi people claimed that this assassination was prepared and executed by Morocco to boycott Spain's understanding with the Polisario Front.
On the other hand, the Spanish Government did not investigate the facts in detail. But 28 years later, Lanzarote still remembers the deceased.
This Tuesday, people wanted to pay tribute to the seven fishermen with a floral offering at the Centennial Cross, located in the Rocar area. The event was attended by the Canarian Social Organization Titeroygakat, the councilors of the Arrecife City Council, Carmen Ramos, Emilia Osuna and Lolina Curbelo, as well as the Commander of the Navy, Ángel Ortiz.
