The Popular Party of Lanzarote paid an "emotional and deserved" tribute to the most veteran members on Friday night. "Men and women who," as the island president, Ástrid Pérez, acknowledged, "at some point in their life put their grain of sand, their effort and their heart into the PP project.
Among those honored were founding members of the then Popular Alliance of 1982, chaired by Manuel Jordán Martinón, such as José Ferrer Perdomo and Remedios Quintana; the first candidate for mayor of Tías in 1983, Pablo Ramos, or the longest-serving member at 102 years old, Juan Machín, among many others.
"40 years ago we lived in turbulent times, there was hope and illusion in the future, but also fear and worry," Pérez said. "Without a doubt, these were not good times for the right, much less in Lanzarote, so this recognition is more than deserved." "Their patient but constant work plus that of all those who have joined the Popular Party family are what have really made it possible for the Popular Party to grow on the island."
Pérez expressed to the 38 honorees the admiration of the entire party for the generosity and dedication they have shown over the years and also the respect for remaining faithful to their convictions.
During the event, the populars took a graphic tour of the most outstanding moments of these 37 years of history through the successive presidents, in addition to offering an endearing memory and posthumous tribute to the colleagues who have already passed away and who have also been references of good work, respect and companionship.
More than a hundred members attended the event, including the Popular Party candidates for the different local corporations on May 26 and young members of New Generations to whom the older members asked for courage to continue defending the values of the PP and win the next elections.
