Torres, on aid for Covid: "Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are the ones that will receive the most funds"

Vaccination, the end of the state of alarm, immigration or the Madrid elections, whose results he believes "cannot be extrapolated", are other issues addressed by the President of the Canary Islands in an interview on Radio Lanzarote

Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are the islands that "will receive more funds, objectively" from aid for the impact of Covid. This was stated by the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, in an interview on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.

Torres visited the radio station's studios this Tuesday, during his visit to the island for the laying of the first stone of the future Tahíche nursing home, although the interview was broadcast this Wednesday. "More funds will go to the places, to the sites, that have the greatest impact, and these are Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and the south of the most populated islands", Torres said before the microphones of Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.

In fact, he detailed that of the 20,000 companies that have submitted applications for aid to SMEs and the self-employed, "14% of the requests are from Lanzarote, when its population is four or five percent of the Canary Islands". "This means that there have been more companies that have asked for help because there are more in Lanzarote that have economic damage than on other islands," added the president of the regional government.

The digital green certificate, vaccination and the scenarios that will open after the end of the state of alarm were other issues on which Ángel Víctor Torres spoke. Apart from Covid, the president of the Canarian Executive also spoke about the migration crisis and the social housing that will be built in Lanzarote, among other issues.

"The Madrid elections cannot be extrapolated"

Finally, the President of the Canary Islands commented on the Madrid elections, stating that the results could not be extrapolated to other communities. "The elections cannot be extrapolated because, if they were, the PSOE won in Catalonia, was the leading force, improved its results and Illa had magnificent results. Did that mean that the Government of Spain was automatically in a wave? Well, I don't know, but what is true is that the regional elections have their location," he pointed out.

Likewise, he urged "to fight the fascism" represented by Vox, "a party that is within Democracy, but that makes absolutely undemocratic proposals and that go against what has been achieved during the last 30 years". "They are against the autonomies, the rights of women to decide, the fight against gender violence and the law that equalizes people to be able to marry and have identical rights," he stressed.

In terms of island politics, he highlighted the "great advances" that, in his opinion, are taking place both in the Government of the Cabildo and of Arrecife, with the pact between the PSOE and the PP, and highlighted the "harmony" that exists between the main leaders of both parties on the island. "And I know that there has been pressure from above on some to change those governments," added Ángel Víctor Torres, who, to conclude, praised María Dolores Corujo, pointing out that she is "a top-level representative" and "a key person" in the party.
