The Tías City Council will take to the next plenary session, to be held next Tuesday, December 15, the eviction of a municipal property that has been occupied for years by an evangelical church, "lacking title for its occupation".
Specifically, it is the Galería Godoy, a building located on Calle César Manrique in Puerto del Carmen that "at one time had a cultural use" and that, according to the Councilor for Social Welfare of Tías, the previous government ceded to members of this church but only "for one year." "They made an agreement with an association attached to them, called Generación Emergente, which are the young people of the church, but it is true that for seven years they have not had a qualifying title," Nicolás Saavedra said in statements to La Voz.
However, the councilor has clarified that "an agreement" has been reached with this evangelical church, whereby they will be able to continue using the facilities "until May." "Because we do not intend to kick anyone out without them having an alternative," he said.
In fact, Saavedra pointed out that "the first proposal that was made to them was to share that space." "But they want to find something of their own. So, we are going to take the file as it corresponds to the plenary session, but in reality there is an agreement with them so that they have time to find a space," he insisted.
It will be used for associations and groups
With this eviction, the Tías City Council intends to recover this property so that different associations can make use of it that "unfortunately, carry out their activities in very small spaces or with few hours because they share with other groups."
"Here there is a good space, because it is a large building, in which we believe that a calendar will have to be made and the use will have to be organized," said the Councilor for Social Welfare, who also believes that "a public space should not be destined for a religious space". "This is already on a personal basis," he specified.
