The Tías City Council organizes the first edition of the La Tiñosa Sea Fair, an annual event to promote marine leisure, with the port of Playa Blanca as a strategic enclave, the first to emerge in a tourist area on the island of Lanzarote.

El Varadero Square will host the fairgrounds where companies and marine leisure activities that currently exist in Lanzarote will be exhibited. The fair kicks off this year coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the birth of the first tourist area of Lanzarote next to the small fishing village of La Tiñosa and will be inaugurated this coming Thursday, September 21 at 10 am. Parallel to the inauguration, a talk will be given by technicians from the Office of the Biosphere Reserve of the Cabildo of Lanzarote on the conservation and awareness of the island's seabed.

The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, and the deputy mayor and councilor of Tourism, Amado Jesús Vizcaíno, presented the program of this fair where, in addition, a traditional haul will be carried out with the participation of the sailors of La Tiñosa, as it was done in the past. With the catch, a great elaboration of jareas will be made to flood the town of La Tiñosa with typism and tradition, as it was common in this enclave of the coast of Tías a few decades ago.

During the days of the fair, which is born with a desire to celebrate it annually, as announced by the Councilor of Tourism of the City of Tías, Amado Jesús Vizcaíno, diving baptisms will be held in the area of El Poril (next to the port of La Tiñosa), sailing courses for children and jolateros workshop.

The Government group of Tías (PP and CC) wishes that this fair will promote the strategic value of the Puerto del Carmen dock as an ideal place for marine leisure companies. With the arrival of the first tourists to Lanzarote, it was in this area of La Tiñosa where the maritime excursions departed. The deputy mayor stressed that "we are working to ensure that the dock of La Tiñosa recovers that hegemonic value in nautical leisure in Lanzarote". We are on a coastline with great seabeds that make it ideal for boats that take tourists for a walk every day, as well as the value of Puerto del Carmen as the first destination in Lanzarote for scuba diving.

The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, said during the presentation that this fair also coincides with the traditional High Seas Fishing Championship organized by the La Tiñosa Fishing Club, which will be enhanced with this Sea Fair in its first edition.

For his part, the Councilor of Tourism, Amado Jesús Vizcaíno, reported that during the days of the La Tiñosa Sea Fair there will be an exhibition of the nearly one hundred photographs that have been submitted to the Sea Photography contest organized by the City Council. During the closing of the Fair, the prizes will be awarded to the winners and the winning photograph will be announced in popular votes through the votes on the profile of Puerto del Carmen on Facebook.

Premiere of the documentary produced by the City Council of Tías "The artisanal fishing of the Arallado de La Tiñosa"

On Thursday, September 21, the first day of the fair, at 9 pm will be premiered the television documentary produced by the City Council of Tías, and starring fishing boats of La Tiñosa, on "The artisanal fishing of the arallado de La Tiñosa".

During the days of the Fair the square will host daily musical, folkloric performances, concerts and an area of Canarian gastronomy.

Latin Sailing Regatta

The waters of Puerto del Carmen will host this coming Sunday, September 24, a regatta of Latin sailing boats, which will sail again along the coast of Tías after the break of many years.

The City Council of Tías has the valuable collaboration of the faculty of the IES Marítimo Pesquero de Canarias (Fishing School) who during the days of the fair will give several talks on the preparation of marine knots, propulsion of boats, survival at sea and handling of fire extinguishers, among others. Attendees can also enjoy paddle surfing and kayaking practices and diving baptisms.

Emerlan volunteers will conduct a maritime drill on the morning of Sunday, September 24. The well-known diver and underwater photographer Carlos Suárez will give a workshop on underwater and sea photography on the morning of Friday, September 22.
