The Department of Social Welfare and Family of the Tías City Council has developed five projects for the direct attention of "the most immediate needs" of citizens related to family, housing and participatory budgets, among others.

The objective of these projects is to "alleviate situations of social emergency, promote citizen participation and reinforce the social services of the municipality." These initiatives, which will be developed throughout this year, are financed by the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands.

The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, confirmed "the commitment of our government group to social welfare and participatory development. We continue working to ensure that no one is left behind, strengthening our support networks and promoting a more active and involved citizenship."

For his part, the Councilor for Social Welfare and Family, Nicolás Saavedra, stressed that social work "is a priority." He added that "with these projects we want not only to meet the immediate needs of our families, but also to give them tools so that they can overcome their difficulties by building a more inclusive and supportive municipality."

Projects

The project called Economic Aid for situations of social emergency has a subsidy from the Cabildo de Lanzarote that amounts to 51,817 euros. In addition to addressing immediate needs, the intention is to work comprehensively with the beneficiaries to develop an intervention plan that promotes their autonomy and empowerment.

Tías avoiding eviction is the title of the second project, which offers rental assistance to people and families in situations of special vulnerability in order to prevent evictions. It also includes a social intervention that analyzes and addresses the problems of family units to promote positive changes. The Cabildo has subsidized it with 100,000 euros.

The following project has 21,460 euros as a nominated subsidy from the Cabildo de Lanzarote to implement a participatory budgeting process that allows citizens to deliberate and decide on a part of the municipal budget. A specialist in the field and a graphic designer will be hired from March to October to guarantee effective and informed participation.

Conéctate is the name of the initiative that focuses on the participation of the youth of Tías in community actions, strengthening existing structures and promoting their personal development. Two socio-sports animation technicians will be hired to carry out the programmed activities and it has a subsidy of 26,123.60 euros, from the Cabildo de Lanzarote.

Finally, social services are reinforced through the Concerted Plan of Basic Services of the Government of the Canary Islands, which grants a subsidy of 27,638.33 euros to develop the project Training in minors and family in a multicultural and digital context. For its execution, a graduate in psychology and a graduate in social education will be hired through a public employment offer from February 3 to May 31, 2025.
