The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, M.ª Dolores Corujo, accompanied by the Minister of Public Works, Jacobo Medina; the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, and the Councilor of Works, Eugenio Robayna, visited this Monday the works of the future Civic Center of Costa Teguise that are being carried out on a plot next to the Arenas School.

According to the Island Council, the future Civic Center, whose works are quite advanced, "will have a capacity for 250 people, in addition to sports facilities with four paddle tennis courts and a tennis court, a cafeteria, changing rooms, office and rooms with large terraces, as well as games for children, walks and gardens."

Likewise, the Cabildo adds, "stone souks have also been projected, creating terraces between the natural rockery, two spaces that will be dedicated preferably to projections, conferences and similar events, and two other spaces adjacent to the cafeteria."

"This important project, financed by the Cabildo for an amount of 1.3 million euros, within the Municipal Cooperation Plan, has a marked social character, since it will offer the residents of Costa Teguise services and spaces for various uses, both sports, cultural and leisure," details the president. "New and modern facilities," adds Corujo, "which will be a fantastic meeting and respite place for the groups of the municipality and families."

The Minister of Public Works, Jacobo Medina, explains that "the project is complemented by a promenade that will link the different terraces with the parking area and Avenida de Las Palmeras, having foreseen another direct access to the cafeteria area".

Medina also wanted to emphasize that "we are facing a sustainable building that will use underfloor heating to cool the different rooms of the project, powered by a hydrothermy system."

For his part, the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, points out that "with this new sociocultural infrastructure, which will be completed next year, the City Council attends to one of the main demands of the population of Costa Teguise that requires services, while responding to social and sports groups to have a common meeting and work place."
