The Councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and president of the Water Consortium, Andrés Stinga, has confirmed the "progress" in a new project to improve the supply network managed by the Water Consortium; specifically, the one referring to the integral substitution of the underwater pipeline and the improvement of desalination in La Graciosa.

"It is a pity that the Teguise City Council had not processed a request in the Consortium Assembly to truly defend the interests of the Graciosa residents if it was a priority issue because, if it had occurred, this improvement would have been resolved years ago since my Government group has the capacity to do so," explained the island councilor when detailing the efforts made lately before the Government of the Canary Islands on this project.

"Endowments and services in politics are achieved with many hours of work and not with recurring statements in the media," added Stinga, who reiterates the importance of "providing solutions to this issue after decades of inaction," and encourages the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, "to put more effort into improving services to the neighborhood and leave opportunism aside."

And so, the management of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has led to the request for collaboration and interadministrative cooperation to the Ministry of Ecological Transition of the Government of the Canary Islands for the elaboration, preparation, and execution of two projects: on the one hand, the renovation of the underwater pipeline of supply from Lanzarote to La Graciosa, and on the other, that of a modular desalination plant that will have a capacity of 500 to 600 m3 and will be installed on the eighth Island.

Better to plan than to improvise

The following steps are explained by Andrés Stinga, councilor president of the Water Consortium: "Once the Executive agrees to the collaboration, we will advance in the intervention in the underwater pipeline of the Guatifay-La Graciosa Network, in order to prevent new breakages or incidents from occurring. But, in addition, we will go further by installing an attached module that provides immediate solutions to desalination in the face of any unforeseen event that arises."

Finally, Stinga has positively valued the collaboration between administrations and has encouraged the city councils to continue working "in the development of the projects that we plan jointly at the beginning of each year, a work plan far from improvisations and where the priority projects for each local administration must appear."
