"Saint Patrick is a great celebration in Ireland and also in Puerto del Carmen. We all hope that this exceptional situation of the covid-19 pandemic will improve and we all wish to be able to celebrate with enthusiasm and joy.” With these words, the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, congratulated the Irish community of the municipality this Wednesday at the emblematic Irish Harbour Bar pub in Puerto del Carmen.

The consul of Ireland in Lanzarote, Eileen Izquierdo, and the owner of the pub, Mai Blake, were present at the commemorative act, held in a symbolic way and with limited capacity. The representatives of the Irish community presented the Tías City Council with a small bunch of shamrocks brought expressly from Ireland and a Waterford crystal clock, of great symbolism for the country.

Cruz Saavedra presented a plaque of recognition to the Irish community in Lanzarote and expressed his wish "that the economy will soon be reactivated." The second deputy mayor, Nicolás Saavedra, and the Councilor for Youth, Cristopher Notario, also attended the event on behalf of the City Council.

The owner of the Irish Habour Bar, Mai Blake, explained to the councilors that the celebration of Saint Patrick's Day 2021 will be carried out through the facebook 'The Irish Harbour Bar Lanzarote' and that it will include a musical show from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with two live performances from Lanzarote and four other performances from Ireland. According to the City Council, this facebook reaches 4,500 views on Sundays with its live musical performances.
