The Teguise City Council will intervene in the solid urban waste collection service in the municipality, following the strike call indefinite announced by the workers of the company Camilo Álvarez Sánchez S.A starting on December 19, as a result of unpaid wages.

The aforementioned company is included within the CAS group and its employees announced this Wednesday, as La Voz reported, that they will join the strike call planned in other companies of the group. On the one hand, Clusa, whose workers carry out the cleaning of the schools of Arrecife and started the strike this Wednesday. On the other hand, Salimpa and Rinca, in charge of the maintenance and cleaning of the municipality of Tías. And it is that although in this case the City Council also proceeded to seize the concession of the service, the workers will go on strike on the 19th if they do not collect the two payrolls that are owed to them.

The City Council will take charge

Now, the City Council of the Villa has convened this Thursday an Extraordinary and Urgent Plenary Session, as the City Council of Tías did in its day, to seize the service and try to stop the strike. "The serious economic problems that the company is going through and the breaches of the collective agreement reported, will force the municipal government group to rescue the management for a period of two years," is announced from the City Council.

They add that the seizure of the service is carried out "to avoid irregularities in the collection and the City Council will take charge of the payment of wages and Social Security of the 11 workers who operate in the municipality".

The Intervention area of the City Council assures that the debt of the City Council with the company "has been reduced in recent years", having made payments of 672,000 and 200,000 euros in the years 2008 and 2009, and maintains that the Institution is not responsible for the economic loss of the company".

The strike announced by the workers of Camilo Álvarez Sánchez S.A., would also affect the municipality of Tinajo, whose City Council has not yet announced measures.
