The PSOE of Yaiza has proposed the Bizum system to make payments to the City Council. The initiative is due, according to the socialist councilor, Javier Manso, to the fact that making payments by electronic means "is increasingly common among citizens, especially as a result of the increase in commissions charged by financial institutions."

According to the socialist mayor, operations as basic as deposits and transfers, or the reduction of face-to-face attention time for these operations in banks, "advise that public administrations make it easier for citizens to make electronic payments quickly and easily". "In general terms, its use has no associated cost for users," adds the mayor.

From the southern PSOE they point out that among the different methods of electronic payment, the use of the Bizum platform has spread, an instant payment service "that is easy to use, intuitive and very comfortable". "It does not require downloading applications and the payment method is similar to that of a bank transfer. Its singularity lies in the fact that it is done from a mobile device," the socialists detail.

These advantages have led the PSOE of Yaiza to request the City Council to incorporate the Bizum platform among the payment tools available to citizens, "both for the payment of municipal taxes and any other economic transaction towards the City Council or towards other municipal bodies".

Widespread use among people of all ages

According to the socialist councilor, "its success is due not only to its widespread use among young people, but among people of all ages."

"There are already public administrations such as autonomous communities, provincial councils and city councils that are incorporating this modality among their services. The Basque Country and Catalonia have been the first autonomous communities to include Bizum among their digital payment options," says Javier Manso.

Regarding the legal support of the initiative, the socialists point out that article 198 of the Regulatory Law of Local Treasuries states that local entities "may dictate special rules for the entry of the proceeds of the collection of resources that may be made in the cash registers or in the collaborating credit institutions by means of cash, transfers, checks or any other means or payment document, whether or not they are banking, that are established."
