The councilor and spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Ariagona González, has denied the statements of Coalición Canaria in which it “deceitfully” assures that the PSOE signed a resolution on May 28 so that a new hotel of almost 700 beds can be built in Playa Blanca. “The one who authorizes that hotel is Oswaldo Betancort, let him assume his responsibilities and stop hiding behind misleading information trying to manipulate the citizens,” he adds.

The socialist spokesperson indicates that the PSOE did not authorize any hotel: “We left that authorization on the table in the Governing Council during our government and the procedure was articulated to declare Lanzarote touristically saturated, that was our direction to paralyze new licenses and stop the growth of the island."

The socialist councilor adds that "previously, all that was done was respond to the administrative procedures of the file, issues that the president knows or should know do not imply that the authorization prospers. The authorization depends on the Governing Council and that is what the Governing Council of Oswaldo Betancort has done.”

“This authorization is in line with what Betancort has followed as president: not recognizing the data from the Lanzarote load capacity study and continuing on the path of uncontained developmentalism. In less than a year, he has authorized three new hotels for Lanzarote, despite having scientific data that supports that Lanzarote cannot take any more and still insisting that Lanzarote does not need a single tourist more, nor a single tourist less.”

“Instead of wasting time thinking about deceitful strategies to point out other culprits, we recommend that you invest your time and government responsibilities in things that can change the uncertain course that this island has taken since you have been President,” he concludes.
