The Popular Party (PP) of Lanzarote will present amendments in Madrid to the General State Budgets for not including items for the port of Arrecife or the cruise ship dock. This is one of the agreements reached by the party's public officials at a meeting held on Thursday night.
A more detailed analysis of the General State Budgets indicated that in the amounts for allocations to the autonomous communities, the Canary Islands occupies the penultimate position.
"While some communities have an average investment per person of about 400 euros, in the Canary Islands it is only 200 euros," explained the president of the PP management board, María Dolores Luzardo, in statements made to the Buenos Días program on Radio Lanzarote.
Regarding the distribution to cover healthcare, the members of the PP highlighted that the Balearic Islands are allocated 26 million euros with approximately one million inhabitants. However, the Canary Islands receive 28 million euros for a population of two million people.
The severity of the problem also involves factors such as the fragmented nature of healthcare due to being an island reality with a greater number of islands. On the other hand, the Popular Party points to the difficult situation of caring for immigrants, as it cannot be assumed with the current resources of public health. Finally, regarding the arrival of foreigners, the president of the management board pointed out that last year the Government Delegate in the Canary Islands said last year that an intensive surveillance service would be established for immigrants "but it has not yet been launched." However, the Government confirmed, through the Senate, that this system will be launched in June 2006.
Other issues
For the Popular Party, immigration is another of the major problems. In this sense, the national deputy Cándido Reguera will formulate several questions in the Congress of Deputies to learn about the agreements reached in the meeting between Spain and Morocco that was held in Seville and to which the Canary Islands attended as an invited guest. "It is about knowing the positive aspects in terms of immigration for both the Canary Islands and Lanzarote," explained María Dolores Luzardo.
On the other hand, the PP will insist again, before all institutions, on the application of the point-to-point fare for flights between the peripheral islands. In addition, they will promote the equalization of the costs of IMERSO trips for the elderly since they have to pay out of their own pocket the transfer to Gran Canaria to start their routes.
Finally, the Popular Party will also ask that the City Councils recognize the debt they have with Inalsa. They will also ask that the necessary agreements be reached to cover them.
