The Renovating Movement of Tinajo has once again denounced "the passivity and silence" of the mayor, Jesús Machín, before "one of the most serious problems" suffered by the residents of the municipality. “Water is a basic necessity, and we cannot resign ourselves or accept this situation as if it were normal. The mayor cannot continue to turn his back on the neighbors,” warns the councilman and party spokesman, Antonio Morales.
From the MRT they remember that they have been "three years demanding the mayor and his government team to act, but to this day they continue without anything being born". “It is not even recorded that they have requested a meeting of the Island Water Consortium to address this issue,” laments Morales, who cannot explain this passivity.
“It is starting to be suspicious that the mayor of Tinajo is silent, that he does not raise his voice in the face of this serious situation. We are starting to wonder what he has up his sleeve with Canal Gestión”, warns the councilman.
In this regard, he denounces that the water problem has not only not been resolved, but has worsened. “We continue to suffer water cuts, there is no information from Canal Gestión, works are carried out without prior information, people make claims and are not answered, exorbitant bills continue to arrive and Canal does not even allow the splitting of bills... A disaster on all sides,” questions Antonio Morales, who recalls that there are many areas where water is not even reaching homes on the announced days.
“Many people are paying for water tanks out of their own pockets because the supply does not reach them,” he adds. In addition, he insists on the damage that this situation is also causing to the primary sector. “Many crops have been lost due to the lack of water,” he denounces.
"He hasn't lifted a finger"
Meanwhile, he questions that the mayor "has not made a single effort, and does not give information to the opposition or the neighbors". “He has been saying since 2019 that he is going to look at it, that he is going to see it and that he is going to manage it, but the reality is that in three years he has not lifted a finger”, insists Antonio Morales.
For its part, the Renovating Movement of Tinajo defends that it has presented writings to the City Council during this time, has collected signatures and has presented "motions of all kinds", including one last February opening the door to legal actions. “Among other things, we asked the City Council that if Canal did not meet the demands of the neighbors, that they go to court, because this cannot be,” recalls Morales.
The party managed to get that motion approved unanimously in the Plenary, but the MRT denounces that the mayor "has not complied to this day" with anything that was agreed. "And he has also systematically rejected the appearances requested during this time by the Renovating Movement of Tinajo, thus avoiding giving explanations with different excuses," he adds.
“He promised that he was going to convene an extraordinary Plenary to talk about this issue, but he still hasn't done so,” denounces Antonio Morales, who considers it inexplicable that the mayor cares so little about the situation that the residents of the municipality are suffering.
