The Federation of Parents of Students of Lanzarote has joined the mobilizations that call for the "withdrawal" of educational revalidations, the repeal of the LOMCE and the "reversal of cuts" in education. Through a statement, the federation announced this Tuesday that it "supports the general strike" called for October 26 under these premises. In addition, it will organize a "green tide" that day in the Infant and Primary education centers of the island, for families who "cannot support the strike but are in favor of the initiative."
This initiative, they explain, is part of the "day of struggle" against revalidations, convened by the Spanish Confederation of Parents of Students (CEAPA), together with the Regional Platform for Public Schools. For its part, FAPA Lanzarote considers that the LOMCE is a law that is "unfair, segregating, without consensus and undemocratic, which violates the rights of students and their families." Thus, it makes it clear that it "does not accept nor will it accept revalidations or their imposition."
"Your children will no longer have the same educational opportunities"
These revalidations, planned for students in the fourth year of Compulsory Secondary Education and the second year of Baccalaureate, consist of several tests external to schools. FAPA emphasizes that they will determine whether students can "opt for the qualification or be able to continue in the educational process, nullifying the criteria of teachers and their continuous evaluation."
"Thus, with respect to students who do not pass the final evaluation of the fourth year of ESO, even if they have passed all 4 courses with good grades, they will not be able to access the Baccalaureate, they will only be able to enroll in Basic Vocational Training cycles," adds FAPA. The federation explains that those who do not pass the revalidation corresponding to Baccalaureate, "will not be able to access university studies with respect to the two calls that will be held in 2017", since this 2016-17 academic year, they explain. Nor will they be able to access higher artistic education, add the parents, "since it will only be possible to access a higher-level Vocational Training cycle in the latter case."
For FAPA, this will cause "many families with specific needs to see how their children no longer have the same educational opportunities." In addition, "many adolescents who require more support will see how they are denied the possibility of opting for the academic title they deserve," they criticize.
"We make a responsible call to all families in Lanzarote to support this initiative for the next October 26, supporting the strike or taking children dressed in a green shirt to schools, creating a green tide, in order to demand that they do not impose revalidations on our children and prevent them from being forced into what they should study or not, depending on the final result of the grade of an external test," they conclude.
