After several weeks with the traffic lights inoperative in Arrecife, the specialized team for the maintenance of the traffic light network in Arrecife has begun work this week to restore service. Due to the requirements of the official tender, called last November, the awarded company has opened an office and facilities on the island, and has qualified operators with a constant presence in Arrecife.

The Municipal Government of Arrecife, led by Mayor Yonathan de León, made it a priority for the awarded company to establish itself in Lanzarote, or to have permanent facilities and operators based in Arrecife to attend to incidents in the traffic light network, with immediacy. In November of last year, the third tender for this maintenance was published – the previous two were left vacant as no specialized firm with certified technical solvency submitted a bid.

Now, the Department of Mobility and Transport of the Arrecife City Council has closed the award and signed the contract that guarantees for four years, in periods of two years with an extension for another two, a specialized firm for the maintenance of this traffic light network. The first actions are focused on the Vía Medular of the conejera capital. Arrecife is the only municipality on the island that has an integral system of intelligent traffic lights connected to the Central Unit of the Local Police.

In this third tender, with an award now firm, the tender documents establish that within less than 24 hours work must be underway on those traffic lights with breakdowns. During the tender process, the first two tenders were declared void as no companies came forward that should have had accredited certification for these systems, in addition to qualified and approved technicians.

The award, the third, was closed for more than 250,000 euros for an initial period of two years, extendable up to four, which represents a total investment exceeding 500,000 euros. Last November 24, the period for submitting economic and technical proposals ended.

The City Councils, among other public administrations in Spain, are regulated by the Public Sector Contracts Law which establishes deadlines to follow for official tenders, which also includes a period of specific days to sign the final contract, even after the award has been resolved by the Contracting Board.
