The National Police carried out a total of nine arrests during the special security operation deployed for the Arrecife Carnival 2026, held between February 6 and 18 in Arrecife.

Of the total arrests, two-thirds were related to crimes against public health, mainly for drug trafficking, while the rest were due to other criminal acts detected during preventive services.

The operation, designed in response to the high concentration of people in public spaces during the festive events, also resulted in the identification of more than 700 people at various strategic points, especially in areas of high attendance and during large-scale events.

As a result of the checks, officers issued more than 350 citations for possession or consumption of narcotic substances and nearly thirty citations for weapon seizures, in application of current regulations on public safety.

Likewise, the device intervened in six fights or tumultuous brawls, managing to prevent the incidents from reaching greater severity and restoring order immediately thanks to the rapid police action.

The final balance reflects, according to police sources, the effectiveness of the operation, which allowed the festive nature of the carnival to be reconciled with public safety, reinforcing both preventive presence and response capacity to any incident.

From the National Police, the general behavior of the citizenry was positively valued and the body's commitment to the protection of public rights and freedoms in high-attendance events was reiterated.
