The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) of Lanzarote has denounced "the abuse of power" and the "political persecution of the PP" against the Uruguayan activist, José Morales, who was expelled from the country on June 12. The union has called for "the cessation of the repressive wave unleashed on the island" and has demanded that they "stop persecuting those who fight democratically, trying to prevent unfair political decisions contrary to the interests of the citizens of Lanzarote."

In this sense, the union has recalled that José Morales was accused on April 3 of disturbing public order, along with six other people, during a demonstration against the oil explorations that Repsol intends to carry out and in which the Minister of Industry, José Manuel Soria, was rebuked. The General Confederation of Labor has also pointed out that Morales had previously received another expulsion proposal for a pro-Saharawi protest.

"Finally, on June 12, the colleague José Morales was expelled from the country, after suffering endless persecutions, this expulsion being dictated for an unproven administrative fault, thus violating the most fundamental human rights, by not taking into account the documentary and testimonial evidence presented by the activist," the union denounced.

The CGT views "with deep concern" the "spectacle designed by the Government Delegation of the Canary Islands for the expulsion of Morales." "It has fabricated continuous lies to diminish citizen support for the colleague, not allowing his family and friends to see him," he criticized.

"Abuse of power and arrogance"

The union has also denounced "the abuse of power, the impunity, arrogance and provocation put into practice by the Popular Party against José Morales." "We are convinced that the expulsion of the colleague from the country has been a political decision, as it lacks a judicial sentence," he said in a statement.

From CGT they have demanded that the government of the Popular Party "stop using the police to defend its political positions and repress those who are against it." "That it ends the hunt for the social dissident, cuts off the repressive wave and witch hunt unleashed on the island, and stops persecuting those of us who fight democratically, with the aim of defending the interests of the majority of the population against the social and environmental plundering promoted by the governments in turn and trying to prevent unfair political decisions contrary to the interests of the citizens of Lanzarote," he said.

"The government of the Popular Party should be more attentive to use its repression with corrupt politicians, politicians who act as representatives of multinationals perhaps expecting some perk, traveling judges who waste public money on Caribbean weeks, directors of banking entities that have looted everyone's money. The government should persecute those white-collar criminals who from their position of power use it to enrich themselves with the miseries of the majority; and that by the way, citizens rarely see them pass through the courts, nor are they expelled from anywhere," the union stated.
