The Arrecife City Council has celebrated that the Las Palmas Port Authority approved this Thursday the award of the works for the south counter-dike project of the Naos cruise ship dock, which will involve the construction of a new 322-meter-long dock, which will contribute "to satisfying the growth experienced in recent years in the Port of Arrecife".
According to the Consistory, the Las Palmas Port Authority has awarded the execution of the project to Sociedad Anónima Trabajos y Obras for a total of 8,099,495.96 euros, plus the corresponding IGIC. The works will have an execution period of one year.
The representative of the Arrecife City Council in the Las Palmas Port Authority, Tomás Fajardo, applauds that the public institution has awarded the contract for works, "since this project will be part of the future of the city of Arrecife, which confirms the increase in passengers and merchandise in the port every year".
The City Council recalls that Fajardo demanded last May to the president of the Las Palmas Port Authority, José Juan Cardona, who visited the Consistory together with the director of the entity, Salvador Capella, to speed up the necessary procedures to carry out this work.
Improve operability against southern storms
According to data from the Port Authority, the designed dock has a NW-SE alignment, perpendicular to the Naos Cruise Ship Dock, and a total length of about 322 meters from the start at the Naos dock to the breakwater where the access to the Port of Arrecife is determined. With this configuration, the mouth would have a width of 432 meters.
The objective of this project is the creation of a protection that allows improving the operability of the port against southern storms and at the same time allows the future expansion of the current berthing line of the current cruise ship dock in Naos, thus providing the port with berths for the cruise sector "in strong expansion".
As an example of the ascending activity registered by the port, the City Council points out that during Thursday morning four cruise ships remain docked in Arrecife: Mein Schiff 1 "new", Marella Dream, Aidastella and Norwegian Spirit.
